Prep Blue and Gold - Out and About

National Year of Reading/Chatterbugs Excursion

Click on the link above to watch a movie showing our trip.

Prep Blue and Gold went on a very exciting trip on the 20th March 2012 to the town library. They got to see the inner workings of the library and were able to borrow a book from the town library. For some students this was the first time they had been on a bus and been to the town library.

There was a great level of excitement evident from the students and it was wonderful that they were getting so much excitement from having a story read to them by an experienced story teller. Have a look at the photos attached to this story and the movie that can be found as well. I hope they help you to see the enjoyment that the children had from this their first school excursion.

Welcome to Central State School

Dear Parents and Caregivers

On behalf of students, parents and staff I welcome you and your family to Maryborough Central State School community.

Maryborough Central State School has been a facility for education since 1862. A number of students attending the school come from families whose members have attended the school for several generations as well as families that are new to Maryborough and Central. In 2012, we will celebrate our 150th anniversary. The Anniversary Committee is planning a memorable series of events which we hope will be enjoyed by lots of past and future families.

Central cares about each child’s learning and each child’s well-being. Our experienced staff provides quality learning opportunities for children to meet their educational needs. Teachers plan collaboratively in year levels ensuring consistency in curriculum delivery.
We have a strong music program at Central offering opportunities for children to sing in the choir and to perform as an instrumental musician in the strings orchestra or the stage band. Our students perform in the community and in Fanfare biannually. We hold a Research Competition each year culminating in a Research/Music Showcase Awards evening in Term 4.
Year 7 students play a key leadership role in the school as School Captains, Vice Captains, Student Council members and House Captains. Other students are actively involved in the Media Group producing articles for the school newsletter and community newspapers; and in the Central Production Team operating sound and video equipment for parades and other events in our Hall.

Central also caters for pre-prep aged children. In July 2009, our very own playgroup was formed. The Central Snugglers are a group of parents and children from birth to 4 years who gather each Friday from 9:30-11:30. They are affiliated with Playgroup Queensland and enjoy many benefits due to this association. We aim to provide a safe, supportive school environment for children, staff and parents. Through the Code of School Behaviour we value: safety, effort, respect and self responsibility. Students in the upper school assist students in the lower school during playbreaks, in their role as playground buddies and peer mentors.

I believe that it is important for parents and caregivers to play an active role in their child’s education. Central staff are always willing to meet with parents. We see working together with parents and caregivers as one of our most important roles. Should you have concerns, wish to discuss matters or want to share a great idea, please speak with your class teacher or make contact through the school office.

I look forward to working with you to ensure that your child has quality educational opportunities at Maryborough Central State School.

Mrs Lee Lilburne
Principal

150th Celebrations and Student Reflections

On March 10, 2012 Central celebrated its 150th birthday. It was a great day with approximately 700 teachers and past students registering for the event. It was estimated that at least 2000 people came to school to reminisce about the days in the old school yard.

The day was highlighted by the attendance of Her Excellency, Governor of Queensland, Ms Penelope Wensley AC. She officially opened the celebrations and helped the oldest and youngest students from Central School cut the celebratory cake. It was a wonderful day weather wise and it was terrific to see the school and wider community come together to celebrate this momentous occasion.

There were some terrific displays and stalls, which had our visitors interested and ready to enjoy the tastes and smells from a bygone era.

Students from our school reflected on the day saying the following:

My class put on a good display. They made pictures and played the old fashioned games. Harvey, Year 3

Rochelle, Year 6:
I thoroughly enjoyed singing with the choir and playing with the band. I think the boys would have loved the old cars.
