The development of Literacy skills from Prep to Year Seven has been and will remain a major focus at Central. The schools current English Program is aligned with the new syllabus and provides an overview for teachers of what needs to be taught and assessed in each Year Level. Teacher engagement with the new syllabus will be ongoing in preparation for full implementation in 2008. The development of reading in all primary years receives an important emphasis. Strategies include:
Integrated units of work include a focus on genres where spelling, reading and language structures are taught in context. Students have the opportunity to compete in English Competitions (eg. University of NSW and Book Week Advertising Campaigns). |
