Welcome to term three – Central Prep

Good to be back. We hope you had an enjoyable time sharing with your children over the holidays. With term three upon us we will be focusing on further preparing the children for Year 1.

Some children will continue to spend time on learning letters (lower case) and correcly forming the letters in their name.

Others will be learning to recognise their upper case letters and working on sight words.

In maths we will continue learning to recognise numbers and count to 20. This term we also begin to form numbers.

The partnership between home and school becomes really important as we try to ensure that each and every child has these skills in readiness for Year 1.

The extension group is working on investigating sounds. They also read their homereaders each night and are working through sightwords relating to those readers.

Each week the extension group works with Mrs Crick looking at sight words as well as learning reading strategies. To help with understanding of stories the group works on the five W's. After Mrs Crick reads a big book story the children answer the Why, When, Where, What and Who questions.

Children are developing as active learners and it is exciting to watch them as they try to reach goals. We (prep teacher aides, helpers and me) are so very proud of each and every child as they get excited about learning and achieving. What a priviledge it is to part of such a rewarding year level.
