Term 3 2009
Morning Routine In the morning from 8:50 - 9:30am we go through our morning routine. We look at the weather, day, date, month, year and practice our sounds and sight words. This time is also when we look at our trivia of the day. We read our big book each morning to practise reading a familiar story. We are getting so good at doing our magic minute because of all of the practice we do. Each day we start with our lower case letters followed by upper case and finally numbers to 20.
Fruit Break We like to be healthy and have a piece of fruit or a vegetable at 10am while we listen to Mr Morris read a story. Some of the things we like are watermelon, oranges, apples, pears, peaches, kiwi fruit and bananas.
Literacy We have our literacy groups on Monday and focus on reading and writing. Our focus at the moment is still on using blends but this term we will be investigating copycat sounds. We are having a go at using functional grammar in our classroom but still like doing our 5 W sentences. Our reading and writing is improving every day.
Mathematics Maths groups are on Monday. Mathematics this term will involve learning some new concepts. Practicing our numbers and counting are always a priority. This term we will be finding out about addition strategies like count-ons, rainbow facts and doubles. We are also going to learn how to tell the time and be able to recognise all of our Australian money.
Unit of Work - Rainforests This term we will be doing a mini-unit on what a rainforest is and why they are important. This topic was selected by us and we are very keen to learn all about where rainforests are and the animals that inhabit them. We will investigate the genre of an information report and grow a plant in the classroom to view the changes a plant makes from a seed to full growth. Check out our Climbing Bean experiment, click here.
Homework
Homework sheets are out now and this is due fortnightly. We need to do all of the first sheet but can choose from the next sheet. At least 2 of the items on the optional sheet must be completed. This homework is great because it gives us choices and we can do more if we want to. Trivia
As always we have our trivia of the day. Here are some that we have had. Look at the bottom for the answers. 1. Which intestine is longest? The small or large? 2. Which country has the most hospitals? 3. Where is the smallest bone in the human body? 4. What is the largest organ of the human body? Reading Mates
Our reading mates are back this year to help us during our literacy groups. They read with us and do other activities each Monday. Thanks to Mrs Brown for allowing her students to help us.
Special Helpers We would like to thank all of the special helpers in our room that help us learn and be better school citizens. A special thank you to our Mums who come in and help us out. I would love for some more Mums or Dads to come in and help as there is a lot to help with. Thank you to everyone who helps us and takes an interest in our learning. Please stay tuned for more trivia and photos soon to come. Trivia Answers 1. 3. In the ear called the stirrup. 4. The skin is the largest organ
