Introduction: As research scientists you will be investigating this question and using your knowledge complete the following set tasks. So pack your woollies and get ready to go! Task 1:Experiments
As a scientist you will be involved in experiments that demonstrate interesting phenomena about the environment and animals of Antarctica. You will be required to write up your experiments on a weekly basis. Task 2: Scientific Report. As a class we will investigate the Life Cycle of the Emperor Penguin and its relationship to the Antarctic environment. Together with other research scientists you will research the lifestyle of a particular bird species that lives in Antarctica. You will be required to write a report on the life cycle of your species. (Note taking and criteria sheets will be provided to assist you in this task.) As part of your task you will computer generate a lifecycle poster displaying the different stages of the development of a species. All years 4 and 6 students in Queensland will be taking part in Science, Maths, and English tasks. These are not to be confused with the National Testing performed in years 3, 5 and 7. These tasks are presented and assessed by the classroom teacher. This year we will be meeting with other teachers from this area to moderate the English Task. All areas will be reported on in the Semester 1 Report card.
Term 4: Welcome back! This term we are learning more about Queensland . You will find our unit descrption below.
Keep watch on the above timetable as there will be a few changes due to swimming this term. Well done all students have returned their forms.
Year 4 completed their Bushrangers Unit with the presentation of their Oral autobiographies in front of the video camera. This has provided the students with some valuable feed back on how they can improve their speaking and delivery when giving oral presentations.
Introduction: As a travel guide you are on a tour of Queensland to discover what is so great about our state and why people choose to live in different cities in Queensland. Is it because of the climate or the job opportunities that exist or is it because of the lifestyle? These are some of the questions you need to think about as we tour Queensland. First we will start with our city of Maryborough and discover why it is such a great place to live. You will be given an exemplar which will show you the types of information that you will need and also how to write your information. You will then choose a city in Queensland and through research decide why people choose to live there. So let’s travel Queensland! Task 1: As a group by using an atlas we will mark on a map the major cities, climatic zones and important physical features of Queensland. This will help you decide which city you would like to research. Task 2: After you have chosen your city you will need to research for information on the internet, books and don’t forget human resources ie. You may know someone who has lived in the city you have chosen and be able to give you first hand information on what it was like to live there. A note-taking sheet will be provided with guide headings. Some information is necessary to find but as all cities are noted for different aspects you will be able to decide on some headings that are appropriate for your city. Using the exemplar that you have been given for Maryborough you will write up your findings in your super sentences and story book. Remember you have to convince me that this would be a great city to visit or to live and work in. Task 3: This will be the fun part! Using the information you have gathered you will create a brochure about your city using publisher. We will have a look at some brochures to get some great ideas. |
