Dear Parents and Caregivers,
On behalf of students, parents and staff I welcome you and your family to the Maryborough Central State School community.
Maryborough Central State School has been a facility for education since 1862. A number of students attending the school come from families whose members have attended the school for several generations as well as families that are new to Maryborough and Central. In 2012, we celebrated our 150th anniversary.
Central cares about each child’s learning and each child’s well-being. Our experienced staff provides quality learning opportunities for children to meet their educational needs. Teachers plan collaboratively in year levels ensuring consistency in curriculum delivery.
We have a strong music program at Central offering opportunities for children to sing in the choir and to perform as an instrumental musician in the strings orchestra or the stage band. Our students perform in the community and in Fanfare biannually. We hold a Research Competition each year culminating in a Research Awards evening in Term 4.
Year 7 students play a key leadership role in the school as School Captains, Vice Captains, Student Council members and Sports House Captains. Other students are actively involved in the Media Group producing articles for the school newsletter and community newspapers; and in the Central Production Team operating sound and video equipment for parades and other events in our Hall.
Central also caters for pre-prep aged children. In July 2009, our very own playgroup was formed. The Central Snugglers are a group of parents and children from birth to 4 years who gather each Friday from 9:30-11:30. They are affiliated with Playgroup Queensland and enjoy many benefits due to this association.
We aim to provide a safe, supportive school environment for children, staff and parents. Through the Code of School Behaviour we value: Safety, Effort, Respect and Self-responsibility. Students in the upper school assist students in the lower school during play breaks, in their role as playground buddies and peer mentors.
I believe that it is important for parents and caregivers to play an active role in their child’s education. Central staff is always willing to meet with parents. We see working together with parents and caregivers as one of our most important roles. Should you have concerns, wish to discuss matters or want to share a great idea, please speak with your class teacher or make contact through the school office.
I look forward to working with you to ensure that your child has quality educational opportunities at Maryborough Central State School.
Mrs Lee Lilburne
